Udaipur, The city of Lakes!

Thinking of old era and Royal kingdoms of India, always fascinated me the most and that is when I decided to take up a trip to the beautiful city of Udaipur in December 2018, which eventually turned up as one of the best trips I have every been on.

Udaipur, formerly the capital of the Mewar Kingdom, is a city in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. It is also known as ‘city of lakes’. The city had a great influence on me, because in movies I have seen celebrities taking their vows in beautifully constructed palaces touching the shimmering Lake Pichola. To make the most of our trip, we booked a beautiful kothi (villa) to enjoy the royal vibes. The moment I entered the villa, I was mesmerized by the interiors decorated with the massive chandeliers, royal family portraits and miniature paintings depicting the grand history.

On our 4-days trip we enjoyed the boat ride on one of the most beautiful lakes that is Fateh Sagar Lake. We also took bicycle ride around the lake which was an incredible experience. Visited Karni Mata Mandir (Hindu temple) through a ropeway. At first I was scared because I am afraid of heights but then I took a deep breath and looked around at trust me, it was worth a ride for that stunning view!

While in Udaipur, how can one not visit the majestic City Palace, a must visit place if you wish to dig deeper into the magnificent history of Mewar kingdom and all its rulers. The palace towers on the banks of Lake Pichola and thus gives a wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding city. This day was ended with a traditional Indian meal at the beautiful lakeside fine dining restaurant Khamma Ghani, located at the edge of old city, on the Rang Sagar lake with the view of ‘The City Palace’.

Lake Pichola, coming to Udaipur and not taking a boat ride on its waters is a blunder!! The golden sun setting over the lake, rendering its water in shimmery gleam the sight makes a beautiful scene. We also visited Jag Mandir, a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola is very popular for destination weddings and movie shoots. Rooftop dining experience at one of the Lake Pichola’s restaurants is an unforgettable experience.
